A bike trail challenging to both beginners and experts.
Some friends had told us about the trail a couple of years ago. We had a great time, rented a bike and shuttle service to the top of the trail. The part from White Top down to Damascus is pretty much all down hill and is pretty easy, even if you haven’t ridden in a while. There are several places to stop along the way and the scenery is great.

This scenic rail to trail park extends for about 34 miles from Damascus, Va to Abingdon. I walked for about an hour and a half and really liked it. There seemed to be a lot of trees along the trail. I'm guessing this would be a great place for a summer hike or bike ride if you like well shaded trails.

We are in Abingdon again to attend a performance at the Barter Theater. Our visit isnt’ complete without a stop Saturday morning to the Farmers Market. There is a woman at the very end of the market tables that sells fantastic beets! I mean one jar is a great lunch! And the bake goods for sale at the table towards the entrance are amazing. My favorite is the orange and apricot scones. They are fabulous. There’s a vendor near the entrance that sells individual pies... the cherry is the best! There are a few soap vendors too, lots of truly organic vegetables, fresh lettuce grown at the Harvest Table Farm, and fresh pressed juice from White Birch Restaurant. There is one of our favorite farmers markets!

Chose to rent in Abingdon, and took the shuttle to top of Whitetop and did the entire 34 mile ride. So glad we did! Made a reservation for 6 people for the 8:30 Shuttle. I recommend that early shuttle if you are doing the entire ride. Every bike we rented was in perfect shape. They were professional yet made you feel like family. Prices were great too. Highly recommend paying a few dollars more to get the "comfort" seat. Well worth it. I would use these folks again for one of the most wonderful rides of my life.
