Badajoz (Spanish pronunciation: [baðaˈxoθ]; formerly written Badajos in English) is the capital of the Province of Badajoz in the autonomous community of Extremadura, Spain. It is situated close to the Portuguese border, on the left bank of the river Guadiana. The population in 2011 was 151,565.

We have visited Badajoz during "Semana Santa" holidays. The Plaza Alta has a sense of layers of history. You have no idea walking up the streets of Badajoz that you are entering this square. The restaurants and cafes in the plaza are amazing so you have the opportunity of having drinks or coffee and enjoy some typical tapas
