Cappella Palatina - Cappella di Sant'Anna

This is the site of the relic of Saint Anne and is a wonderful chapel located on the top floor of the Museo Castelbuono. We were staying at Agristurismo Bergi nearby and two generations of women had been married in this chapel. We saw the wedding photos - a superb spectacle with the Castello and the chapel as a backdrop to the family celebration.

Castello dei Ventimiglia

The history and age of this castle is interesting in itself. But even if all you go for is the view and / or Baroque chapel, you'll be amply rewarded. The best view is just off the chapel on a balcony that faces the town and the dominate Madonie Mountains. I've seen quite a lot of Baroque, but the amount and quality stuffed into the chapel of this old castle is something. Hopefully, you'll have a live guide or book or something that will give some information on the art in the chapel as it's quite interesting too. The look at the castle won't take too long unless you want it to - 30-45 minutes. But take some time enjoying the piazza below the castle. Eat lunch or have a gelato. Notice the men's clubs (you'll know these by all the men sitting out front) It's Sicilian rural town life at it's best.

Museo Civico di Castelbuono

A rainy day in Cefalu bought us here and we had a great visit. I hadn't researched the castle and thought we were just going to check out a lovely old building but it has so much on offer. A lot of effort has gone into curating a mix of historical details, sacred and modern art and the castle itself is lovely to walk through. Our 9 year old really enjoyed it. A great excursion from Cefalu.
