We stopped by the visitors center, and a very knowledgeable young lady told us about the Gertrude Smith house. It was during their Christmas tour, so the entire house was decorated for the holidays. There were three beautiful Christmas trees and the lady who met us at the door told us so many interesting things about the house. The tour is self guided, so we were able to take our time and look through each room. We enjoyed is so much, and would highly suggest that you make it a stop on your visit to Mt. Airy!

We met the real Floyd's son, who owns the barber shop and employs two barbers. He was SO friendly and full of local history and stories about all the different people that he has met over the years. Original cash register and at least one original barber chair.

We had a great time seeing Wally's service station, the replica courthouse and jail and other areas from the show like the Darlings' cabin.

We were in the area and ended up strolling the streets of Mt Airy. It is a beautiful little country town with lots of shops and restaurants all using the Andy Griffith scene as the draw. We enjoyed our time here.

Having grown up loving Andy Griffith and all the characters, my friends and I were delighted to find this perfect recreation of the Mayberry Jail. The details here are classic tv - Otis' cell, the key, Andy's desk (down to the phone and typewriter!) This is a fun part of any trip to "Mayberry" Mount Airy, NC.
