Our family is visiting the area from Las Vegas and we are a bunch of true crime lovers so we just had to go to the Lizzie Borden house! The tour exceeded our expectations! Our tour guide, Sue, was so awesome! You could tell she truly enjoyed what she does! She had such a cool enthusiasm and all of the small details made the tour truly special! She gave a great narration and then let us tour the rooms after each section. We are definitely going to come again for the nighttime tour to hear all of her paranormal stories!! Definitely worth the visit! Hope they open Maplecroft by the next time we return! Thank you, Sue!!

It is a large cemetery you can drive through with many beautiful and old gravestones. If you want to find Lizzie Borden’s grave you follow the white arrows painted on the road and they will take you right to the Borden family plot where she is buried along with her sisters and father and stepmother. A number of folks left coins on her stone and it is in a nice small hill. There are more Borden family plots in the cemetery so it’s easy to get confused but if you follow the arrow you can find the right place. The grounds are well kept and it is a beautiful place.

If you Google, "Stay In A Lighthouse" you'll find numerous choices. Most feature a cottage or austere quarters nearby a lighthouse but perhaps only two or three in the U.S. have you actually staying "in" the lighthouse. This is one! A fully restored accommodation, clean as a whistle, with period-correct antiques and wall décor. Their website is very informative and has detailed pictures. You sleep and eat and read and relax right where the keepers did, beginning in the 1800's. The owner provides you with an in-depth briefing on its history, and explains the careful use of the many items of solar-powered equipment. If you're interested in trying a genuine, authentic lighthouse stay, this is the one! Fantastic!

I was able to spend the night at Maplecroft due to a very generous invitation from the owner, and had an absolutely amazing experience. While most people interested in Lizzie Borden focus on the events of August 4th, 1892, once the trial and acquittal pass, the rest of the story of her life is a kind of footnote or coda. Maplecroft allows the rest of Lizzie's (or Lizbeth, as she preferred to be called in her post-trial life) story to be told. Her generosity, her love of children, her support for those around her really don't get to be center stage at the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast in the same way, and having this other half of her story told is refreshing and new. The house itself is simply breathtaking and has been lovingly restored through the efforts of the past two owners. Many fixtures and elements of the home are original to Lizzie's time, and the whole experience of being in there is one of joy and awe. I highly recommend going through the Second Street home (the Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast) first, then checking out Maplecroft. The difference in atmosphere is astounding. The property manager, Ryan Woods, is welcoming and knowledgeable. It is clear that many hands went into restoring this home to get it ready to open to the public, and the love and care that has gone into it makes it a truly wonderful space to experience. I highly recommend it!
