After seeing several paintings by Owosso native Frederick Carl Frieseke in museums around Michigan and elsewhere, I wanted to learn more about the artist and where he grew up, so a stop at the Shiawassee Arts Center was a must! Their Frieseke Gallery holds several original works by the highly regarded American Impressionist artist Frieseke, including "Along the Shiawassee" and "Lady with a Sunshade", plus several fine art prints of works held in other museums or featured in exhibitions. So nice to learn more about the artist and see some additional works. (We also stopped by his boyhood home a few blocks away.) The Center also features a collection of art by local artists or of local interest. At the time of our visit, the Center has just opened a new exhibition featuring five Michigan artists; there were some lovely affordable paintings from each artist. The Center's gift shop is a wonderful place to shop for art from paintings and ceramics to jewelry, cards, and other handmade crafts for your home or for gifts. Definitely worth a visit!!
