Monaco City (French: Monaco-Ville) is the southcentral Ward in the Principality of Monaco. Located on a headland that extends into the Mediterranean Sea, Monaco City is nicknamed The Rock (French: Le Rocher). The name "Monaco City" (French: Monaco-Ville) is misleading, Monaco City is a historical and statistical district, not a city.

Chocolaterie de Monaco

Reviewed By RoxanaTravelReview - Greenwich, United States

As many times as I’ve been here, I haven’t had the pleasure of running into Albert II Prince of Monaco, whom I’m told frequents the Chocolaterie. Never mind, I’m here not for the royalty but for the royal chocolate that this special sweet shop is known for. If you’re looking for the finest in cacao products, this is the place. The choices are mesmerizing and unforgettable. A small box of their signature truffles will win anyone over! Historically cacao has been traced back to the Mayans, although recent findings suggest that its cultivation actually began in the Amazon basin of South America then brought north, where the Meso American Indians perfected its use and adopted it in their spiritual rituals. We’re just now beginning to understand what they knew about its consciousness awakening properties. The Chocolaterie de Monaco is a quiet and elegant ambiance with few tables. I come frequently for their delicious hot chocolate which has a smooth silky consistency, a dark rich flavor, a tantalizing aroma and just enough sweetness to remind you that this is truly a euphoric liquid experience. Oh my, just writing about it makes me want to hop on a plane back to Monaco! Though I’ve trekked Europe looking for it, I’ve yet to find anything near its perfection anywhere else. Served piping hot on a proper cup and saucer, it makes this experience memorable and elegant unlike drinking from a mug. Not that it is needed, but a small individually wrapped chocolate is always served with each cup of perfection. Attention to detail in their service and their products is evident. Next time you’re checking out the Royal Palace and gardens, stop by the chocolaterie.
