On the second and fourth Saturday’s of the month markets are held at Speers Point Park. Set against wide views of Lake Macquarie, these markets are a great place to take visitors to the area. Stalls are constructed on either side of a wide promenade. Seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as a range of foods, drinks, coffee, breads, oils, crafts, flowers and plants are available. There is plants of seating, a jazz band entertains visitors and a huge children’s playground is adjacent to the area.

Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery is an exceptional cultural and tourist destination, widely recognised for its exhibition program and work with the community. Located on the shores of Australia's largest coastal saltwater lake, the leafy grounds include the award-winning gallery with state-of-the-art seminar facilities, a sculpture park, mosaic pathways, and the historic Awaba House Restaurant Cafe. Lake Macquarie is unique among regional galleries due to its location and quality of programming. Touring shows alternate with gallery-curated exhibitions featuring nationally significant artists, many of whom share a connection with the Hunter. Contemporary visual arts, craft and design practice is the main focus of our exhibitions, and respectful Aboriginal projects are a strong component of the program. The gallery can be reached easily via the lake foreshore cycleway, the water or by public transport. image caption: Janet Laurence,'Ghost',2009, glass, stainless steel, concrete, approx. 500 x 140 x 80cm, copyright the artist
Beautiful Area to visit. Small intimate gallery definitely worth a visit. Beautiful area for a picnic.

We live up the coast and when we go shopping in Newcastle we go to Charlestown Square. Lots of undercover parking with easy access to the shops. Dan Murphy is even located in the car park which is amusing but handy. We often go there as it has the only Apple store between Sydney and Robina on the Gold Coast. Lifts and escalators are conveniently located and the layout of the shopping centre is logical. Lots of great shops to suit everyone and the food court is fabulous with lots of seating. Really enjoyed the kebab at Kebabs and Crepes.
Stockland Glendale has serviced the local community since 1996 and is located on the northern fringes of Lake Macquarie, approximately 15km west of Newcastle. Stockland Glendale boasts a variety of discount department stores & supermarkets including Kmart, Target, TK Maxx, Coles and Woolworths, plus over 80 specialty stores.
