You only need to see the facade view from the street as this is the best part of this church. It is an outrageous Neo classical facade on the top of a hill in Battery Point framed by old trees. I just loved it for its total disregard for its surrounding architecture.

This church is beautiful inside and out, and is well worth a visit. The tranquility inside it is on its own worth the visit. As the oldest Catholic church still in service, it has a long history and this seems to emanate from every wall, window and pew. Of particular note is the bespoke input to this little colonial church by the renowned English gothic revivalist architect and designer, Augustus W. N. Pugin. He is most famous for designing the British Houses of Parliament and Big Ben (check him out on a search engine). St John's is one of three Pugin Tasmanian churches, the others in Oatlands and Colebrook.

Proclaiming Jesus as Lord in the Heart of Hobart to build a community of living faith, profound hope and practical love.Sunday services at 8am, 10am and 6:30pm
Beautiful building if you like visiting and looking at history. Was enthralling having a look around and soaking up the history. You do not need to be religious to appreciate history. We found the Cathedral on a stroll and spent some time having a look.

This synagogue was established in 1845. The oldest synagogue in Australia. Daniel was a very knowledgable guide and very welcoming. Most is still in its original condition and well preserved. It is best to call and make an appointment.
