Nestled in the Northern Japan Alps, Hakuba is all about the winter sports. A top ski and snowboarding destination, Hakuba has plenty of snow and nearly perfect powder. Spend the day swooshing down one of the areas 200+ trails, then end with an après ski at one of the area’s cozy pubs or cafes. Local mineral hot springs make great soaking spots for weary muscles.

Resting at the base of Hakuba Happo-one ski area, Shirouma-so is a modern Japanese ryokan (inn) combining both traditional wood and modern Japanese "Wa" architectural styles, resulting in a creative and beautiful design. From the entrance featuring wooden pillars and beams preserved from the building's agricultural beginnings in the Edo period, to rooms with large windows and views of the northern Alps, you can relax, place yourself in the hands of Nature, and refresh yourself in the warmth of this historical ryokan. Shiroumaso is appreciated by many guests as a convenient base for skiing, snowboarding, or the numerous outdoor activities of the summer months, as well as a hub for touring Shinshu, Azumino, and other regions within Nagano.
Have stayed here several times years apart and am always amazed at the dedication and services offered by Toshi-san and those that work here, everything is spotless and in order, Onsen is amazing. Breakfast is Japanese style with a few western touches and is out of this world and it shows just how much they care, I would also recommend eating dinner here at lest once you won’t regret it Thank you for another amazing stay Dave

Hotel Stelle Belle is located very close to Hakuba Goryu Ski Resort. It takes about 3min by walk. In green season, go for trekking at the mountains or enjoy fishing in a lake nearby. Hakubadake, Karamatsudake, Hakuba snowy gorge, Tsugaike and more in the vicinity. We have a hot spring of the pride at our hotel. This is very unusually a shape of the barrel. Name is "The Misodaru Open-air Bath". Please have a relaxing time at the hotel.
Booked through booking.com 3 bed for 3 people for one week. It met our expectations for the reasonable price. Clean and functional room, 3 single beds with warm heating. One cupboard for hanging was a little bit limiting as we kept most belongings in our suitcase. The room would benefit from hooks or some shelving. Breakfast was included in price. It was generous in the offering of western or Asian variety. Very subdued atmosphere. We enjoyed the on site inside onsen. It was only small but each time we visited we had mostly to ourselves. The outdoor onsen is inside an outside building and can be booked for groups after 21.00. Junko at front desk us always friendly and helpful. She communicated well prior to our arrival and had everything ready for our 2am arrival. She also gave out a map pointing out all the local restaurants. Enough restaurants on offer for a weeks stay to try a new one each night. Recommend RESTAURANT R. We appreciated the free locker for skis and boots, and also the daily morning shuttle to escal plaza for goryu & Hakuba 47 slopes. It’s within 5 minutes walking distance. Highly recommend sanasaka ski resort (only 10 minutes away) for a fun less crowded option. We had it to ourselves mid week with fresh snow. The hotel didn’t really provide socialisation with other guests. Very quite at night. We would recommend and hopefully return some day.

Our stay at the Funny Inn has been nothing short of amazing. The hosts are extremely kind and helpful and put in their best effort to make sure you enjoy your time at not only their Inn but also in Hakuba, providing discounted ski passes, insider knowledge on site seeing and activities and personalised breakfast every morning (I’d recommend). Would 100% come back to stay with them again!

This place was absolutely amazing! The hotel is close to the ski resortes and a 7 min walk to the bus stop and about a 12 min walk to the rental shop. I definitely Recommend the breakfast it is very delicious! The hotel has three private onsen, the big one has to be reserved and only for 30min. We stayed in room 202 it was a ryokan the bathroom was right across from the room. The showers are downstairs combine with the onsen. This was perfect after being on the mountains all day. The hotel is also close to restaurants. The experience was fantastic and the hospitality is the best I’ve ever experienced.

Welcome to Ogiya Ryokan, your Hakuba-mura “home away from home.” Ogiya Ryokan aims to make your visit as relaxing and enjoyable as possible, which is why so many guests continue to come back year after year. Travelers looking to enjoy some tempura can head to Izakaya Hie, Soba Shubo Zen, or Kikyo-ya. Otherwise, you may want to check out a seafood restaurant such as Kikyo-ya, Koiya, or Fish Republik. Plus, during your trip, don't forget to check out a park, such as Oide Park. Ogiya Ryokan puts the best of Hakuba-mura at your fingertips, making your stay both relaxing and enjoyable.
A lovely, clean, warm room nestled into the snowy valley. Happy staff and clean facilities. If you want to shower, you either have to take advantage of the shared indoor onsen downstairs, or the private shower in the old onsen, which I found very convenient. Walking underground between the main buildings was a breeze, though there seemed to be a wet patch on the floor, making the provided rubber slippers a necessity. Hopefully after a year this has been fixed! Also recommend heading to the main area of Hakuba to buy a drink from Seiji!

It was hard for me to decide on a rating- The building itself is older and doesn’t have the attention to detail of higher end hotels, so if you’re looking for luxury this place isn’t for you- but we had an AWESOME stay. I would absolutely stay here again. As expected Hakuba was crawling with Australians, however we were the only western guests the whole time so it felt like we’d actually left Aus, which was nice. Our hosts spoke excellent English and were very helpful. The Japanese breakfasts were DELICIOUS, we felt very spoiled. The rooms and facilities though old were clean, which is very important to me. The onsen was a little bit confronting the first time, but now I don’t know how I’ll live without it! Modern toilet in room- however when it says en-suite it is not a shower, it is a deep tub (never used, onsen too amazing). Coin operated laundry on site and a huge storage area for ski gear. We stayed on the 4th floor and had an unobstructed view of the mountain. LOCATION IS GREAT!!! Free shuttle bus stops directly outside. Easy walk to Adam Gondola. Even easier walk to lots of hotels and restaurants. Convenience store to get cash out a block away. Train station was 2k’s down the hill. Accross the road from Hakuba bus terminal to get the shuttle toother ski resorts. Next door to Woody’s hire. All in all if you’re in Hakuba just to ski/board, want an authentic experience (I thought!) with lovely hosts and easy access to everything and you’re on a budget, this is the place. Hope to visit again soon.
