Wide beaches along the "Flower Coast" attract families and those commemorating the D-Day landings of 1944. Inland, cattle graze in rural idylls and pre-WWII buildings stand alongside modern architecture. Rent a car or take tours from Caen or Bayeux. The landscape around his home in Giverny inspired Monet's Water Lilies, and summer's profusion of blooms is quite lovely. Don't miss Rouen's old town and cathedral, Caen's cathedral, Bayeaux's tapestry and the ancient island-abbey of Mont-St-Michel.

Very good Ibis hotel In Granville Normandy. Staff v v welcoming and I had a nice clean standard Ibis room, dual aspect (smallish windows) overlooking the Marina. Plentiful public free car parking on site and it felt perfectly safe to leave the car. Breakfast Continental fare, fresh and buffet style. I’d 100% use it as base again to tour Normandy just be aware it’s about a two hour drive to the D Day beaches.

Ideally located in the heart of Deauville, two steps away from the casino and the CID, and opposite the marina, the Mercure Deauville Centre hotel gives you the opportunity to visit its beautiful 4-star building. Facing the sea and close to the city centre, we are waiting to give you a warm welcome. Wifi access in all the rooms. Nicely located right on the seafront, the Hotel de la Plage offers a traditional welcome in a charming family atmosphere. The hotel has 40 comfortable sound-proof rooms, each with a hair dryer, minibar and a satellite TV. The hotel is close to the pedestrianised town centre with its charming streets and is conveniently close to the ferry terminal.
This hotel is very clean and it is well placed. Its Covid arrangements were good. BUT we were not given any information about our room or any choice (maybe it was the only one available). The lavatory was separate from the bathroom with no ventilation and no hand washing facilities. There was a hanging rail with just 5 hangers. For other clothes there were 3 triangular shelves whose sides measured, I estimate, 10 inches! So we left our clothes in the case on the stand provided, which took up most of the floor space - and there wasn't much to start with. Breakfast had to be taken in the room, but there was only one chair - well, of course, no room for a second because of the luggage stand. It was priced on the high side, given its limited menu. (If you are a concerned environmentalist you will wonder why all the breakfast crockery and cutlery was disposable. What's wrong with removing viruses via a dishwasher?) The friendliness of the receptionists was variable (one was very good, one was a bit grumpy). Also you need to know that despite the huge number of parking spaces it can be difficult to find one free. One night we were driven to use the paying car park, and even there we were lucky to get the last available space. So our advice is: make a lot of enquiries before committing yourself.

Set close to Omaha Beach and the historic town of Bayeux, Port en Bessin conceals a treasure that lies at the end of a long drive " Chateau La Cheneviere ". Impeccable lawns, ancient trees and a charmingly old fashioned rose garden... arriving on the estate is like strolling onto the lands of an English Lord who fell under the spell of Calvados region. The manor appears at last, a dignified Norman edifice from the 18th century, it combines the charms of an old house with the conveniences of a cosy English Manor. Add to that an opulent interior, spacious, elegant bedrooms. The dining room, overlooking the park, has a certain grandeur on an intimate scale, while classic cuisine allows you to explore all the distinctive flavours of Normandy, a generous and distinguished cuisine based on delicious local produce, faultless service, a heated outdoor pool, a splendid terrace, and the picture is complete...
We spent 16 days in France in October 2021. We had a 4 night stay here and it was exceptional. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the dining options were tremendous. Both restaurants exceeded our expectations. We dream about the day we can return to visit again.
