Though Mumbai can feel chaotic and crowded, there are peaceful moments to be found here. Nibble a paper cone of bhelpuri while you stroll the sands of Chowpatty Beach. Then, take a short walk to Mani Bhavan, where Mahatma Gandhi once lived, strategized, and was ultimately arrested. The markets are spirited places to bargain for spices or souvenirs. Take a guided tour of Dharavi – made famous by "Slumdog Millionaire" – for an eye-opening glimpse into what Mumbai life is like for nearly a million people.

One side of the Oval Maidan is lined with heritage buildings from the 19th century, the other side has Art Deco apartments. We walked right through the middle on a Sunday and were amazed by how much cricket was going on. No wonder India is such a world leader in cricket! Cricket matches as far as the eye could see. And we even did some fielding when a ball was hit out onto the roadside! There are food stalls set up outside to feed the cricket players. The food looked great. But we bought none, instead we bought a packet of huge balloons. Got 10 for 100 rupees and the grandchildren loved them!
