One of the three principal islands of the Maltese archipelago, the island of Malta is the largest of the chain. Its capital Valletta, a lively, bustling city with many buildings dating back to the 16th century, teems with cathedrals, palaces and forts. The impressive Grand Harbour offers a dramatic arrival. The top archaeological attraction is the UNESCO-designated Hypogeum temple ruins, a macabre, 5400-square-foot underground necropolis and the world's only underground prehistoric temple.

Ghar Lapsi is a small fishing place with just three restaurants known for their fresh fish. The place is worth a visit because one has very lovely views to admire and the sea is marvellous.

We visited the Duck Village twice because it was interesting and just over the road from our apartment. It is a very different tourist attraction and it was a pleasure to donate to such a good cause. We liked its character and the variety of birds on display. The guinea pig is very cute.

I had driven past Smart City on a previous visit but this time we stopped for a full visit, I was amazed at the size of the site and it looks like they are making preparations to extend the grounds even further. The choice of eatery was not extensive however, the food and service was brilliant - even down to a British Pub!!!!! We walked around the whole arena where the fountains are but, they were not working as October is the end of their season. Visiting during the day is great but to get the best effect, a visit at night is recommended as discussed with a friend who had actually done this previously. The fountains are apparently brilliant and take their initiative from the fountains at the Bellagio in Vegas. Well worth a visit for anyone lucky enough to be in Malta
