The 7 Best Neighborhoods in Indre By (Inner City), Zealand

December 29, 2021 Venice Greaves

Copenhagen was once a Viking fishing settlement, and you can still find traces of the Norse explorers here. Visit reconstructed villages, the remains of a 1,000-year-old castle, and museums dedicated to the notorious raiders. Copenhagen also features a blend of modern architecture and historical artifacts such as the Round Tower observatory – a wonderful example of 17th-century architecture. Art galleries, narrow streets, canals, parks, and Baroque churches round out the city’s cultural attractions.

Nyhavn

Copenhagen's Nyhaven, or "New Harbor," is actually steeped in a long heritage. Colorful buildings line the canal and hint at a history of small-vessel traffic. Like many ports, this strip has a salty history, rich with sailors, drinking and literary exploits. Danish author Hans Christian Andersen made his home in Nyhavn as well. It's cleaned up now and is a lovely place for a stroll.

There are a wide range of shops available to peruse from Royal Copenhagen (a must see) to LEGO (for the kids of course!). There are shops here for everyone. Scandanavian flair and design is on show here. Allow yourself plenty of time as it is quite some distance. There are also some really excellent shops in some of the side streets that run into Stroeget that are really worth spending time in as well. Enjoy yourselves - we certainly did!!!

I Am Queen Mary

As a proud Crucian woman, standing before this statue of Queen Mary, our queen of fireburn, I felt great pride! AWESOME is the word that comes to mind. The statue is regal as it commands Queen Mary looking out into the Canal of the country that she fought enslavement from. The details all around the entire statue is beautiful. Her face, clothes, machete, even the back of the chair...great details. LaVaughn Belle & Jeannette Ehlers, thank you ladies for such an honorable depiction of a fearless 'Warrior Queen'. This visit made my trip!

The architecture and art are very interesting and abundant in Copenhagen. Just a walk on the cobblestone will take you to many different areas and views...just beware of the bike traffic.
