Rancho Palos Verdes (also known by the abbreviation RPV) is a city in Los Angeles County, California atop the Palos Verdes Hills and bluffs of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. An affluent suburb of Los Angeles, it is known for large tracts of open space and expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. Rancho Palos Verdes is translated as "Ranch of Green Sticks", probably referring to the willows in the northeastern part of Bixby Slough (now known as Machado Lake) shown on earlier maps.

You have to love going to a sparsely populated beach. If so you won't mind the half mile walk down from the parking lot or the half mile back up a very steep incline. At the bottom/beach you will explore lots and lots of tide pools and watch a lot of breaking surf on the rocks. It's very California and a lot of fun.

Very relaxing and peaceful hike to go with a date or the family. Listening to the ocean waves crashing onto the shore rocks is very tranquil. The scenic views are breathtaking as well.

The Ocean Trails are truly a hidden gem. We hiked on a sunny winter day and it was still quite lovely, as there had been some recent rain. Certainly well worth the effort and time. It really is not that long a walk, compared to the other trails in the Palos Verdes Peninsula. You get some amazing views, and if you are a golfer, you can watch them hit. But also watch out for stray golf balls! The whole area is so peaceful and relaxing - you can hear the waves against the rocks - amazing... The park contains ecological preserve and tide pools. Amazing rock tunnels where waves rush in and crash through. Enjoy the marine life but do not touch or take anything.

This is the best place to hike or ride your mountain bike, views are awesome and Google even has the trails on the maps. Go all the way to bottom and see the ocean views too.
