Wonderful Hotel - Even more wonderful staff!

Reviewed By Al F

We stayed at the Gran Sol while touring with a group of 21 members of the Vespa Club del Mediterraneo doing a 10 day tour of the Pyrenees by scooter. It is a lovely hotel in a quiet location, conveniently on the outside border of Solsona. Carmen and her brother Kikos treated our group like visiting royalty. Their dinner menu was wonderful and perfectly prepared food was enjoyed at a very reasonable price. Each evening offered another delightful choice of Catalonian treats. When one of the group was suffering a back spasm, Carmen produced a heating pad from their home! What more could one ask for? Highly recommend the Gran Sol.

Right next to the old town area and free parking outside

The Solsona Centre is located within a two minute walk of the historical centre of Solsona, opposite a free car park and a large Mercadona supermarket. What more could you want? The lovely owner/manager gave me a warm welcome, keys for the room and the front door and a map of the town indicating some recommended restaurants, one of which I ate in and which, despite it looking rather like a burger bar inside, was really good. The hotel is modern and comfortable, the room was large and, as I say, it is very handy for sauntering around this nice historic town. There is a cafe bar as part of the hotel where I had my croissant and coffee in the morning. Recommended.

Camping El Solsones

Lovely location in Beautiful Catalunya

Reviewed By Tisviv

The staff were friendly and helpful. The countryside setting, close to Solsona, was very pleasant. As we stayed in low season, not many of the campsite facilities were up and running, except at the weekend. Tennis, swimming, crazy golf all available in high season (though the pool is small for the size of the campsite.) Bedding was clean and a small problem with the hot water supply on our arrival was quickly dealt with. They surprised usmid-way through our stay with a lovely bottle of chilled Cava in an ice bucket on our return from a day out; nice. We were a bit disappointed with our cabin, which wasn't as we imagined it from the campsite photos. The sitting area is minimalist and a toaster and kettle might have been useful additions. We were right by the entrance which didn't get much sun and was quite noisy, especially in the early mornings. Bearing in mind that the campsite was not busy - almost deserted on our arrival - a better position and upgraded accommodation would have been appreciated. It also seemed expensive, compared with the 3 star hotel accommodation we had in Portugal for half the price the following week!

Lovely place

We're a couple from France and we spent 3 days at this hotel. The view from the room or aany other spot is just amazing! This hotel has been renovated recently, everything is new. As far as I understand it is popular among the local people, especially the restaurant, we were the only foreigners and all the comments are in the Catalan language. This is exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to discover Catalone, but not the touristic coastal area. But don't worry the receptionist and at least two waiters speak googd English. The hotel has a swimming pool surrounded by trees so you can hide from the sun. Their cuisine is excellente, they even have a small garden where all the herbs and vegetables that you eat at the restaurant are grown. For example I had their water melon for dessert! I would also recommend to visit Solsona and the Mare de la Font park.

Pleasant place in Grealt Location

Very clean, modern apartment well-located for Solsona (a few minutes' drive away) and surrounding countryside. Equipped with a washing machine, tumble dryer, full-size cooker and microwave and countless plates. Lovely views. The description on Booking.com was not entirely accurate - we were expecting an apartment with a balcony but only the larger apartments have these. Unsmiling manager (?) just shrugged when we politely pointed this out - might not seem like a big deal but we were there for 6 nights and had booked this place partly because of the expected balcony. No heating when we arrived and it was very cold; the beds made up with sheets and bedspreads only, so had to locate scratchy blankets from wardrobe. Plastic mattress protectors that squeaked every time you moved. No water at all one morning. No hot water on last day - when we were visited by a member of staff in the evening who said she thought we'd checked out. Any problems or queries, one had to visit the restaurant across the road and carpark. (Closed Mondays.) The apartments on the top floor are very modern, those on the lower floors (with the coveted balconies are large and much more traditional). Though there was an abundance of plates and sundry saucepans and glasses, there was no "oven ware" or kettle and a corkscrew would have been appreciated. In short, this place could be great if it was better managed.
