Touching Belgium on its west and just a few miles from Germany to the east, Maastricht is the capital of Holland’s southernmost region, Limburg. A town rich in history and culture, Maastricht boasts two wonderful town squares: Vrijthof, with Sint-Servaas Church, Sint-Jan's Cathedral and many bars, cafes and restaurants; and Markt, home to the town hall and, on Wednesday and Friday mornings, a fantastic vendor market. The city’s Vestigingswerken, or old town fortifications, are another big draw.

Our guide, Willy, was a great source of information on the one hour + tour of the fort and it’s underground tunnels. It was really interesting to learn about the fort and its role in Maastricht’s history over the years. Great views over the city and surroundings.

Do not miss this book store, it will be an experience you will never have again. The cafe at the back of the store is a perfect place to pause your day and take in the wonderful tea, coffee and treats. I can’t even explain the feeling you get when you enter this ancient church which has been restored to be a fascinating book store with thousands of books, music, magazines and loads of wonderful trinkets. A must see! Side effect is, you end up in the heart of Masstricht, a world heritage site, you won’t regret this visit.

Beautiful and very well preserved/restored medieval city gate, it dates back to the 13th century...a great photo spot

218 steps to the top but the views are amazing The Red Tower on the Vrifhof. Church is different and may be over shadow by the basilica next door. Lots of thing to look at Old but looks modern

Great little port to visit with its cost cafes set near the water. The whole of Maastricht with its pedestrian walkways shops and cafes makes this city a must on the tourist agenda. Moreover the people who work her are exceptionally geared to treat the tourist in a welcoming manner. This city is very easy to walk and find your way around.
