Don Begg Studio West is "A Sculpture Experience" We create bronze sculptures - miniature to monumental. Come see how bronze sculptures are made, tour our studios, see the "lost-wax" process and view finished bronze works in our fine art gallery.
This bronze foundry and gallery is one of Cochrane’s hidden gems. Don Begg has been an international award winning professional sculptor for half a century. Visitors always seem to be welcome and are treated to a very informative tour of the showroom and sometimes a view of bronzes in progress depending on whether the work in progress is public or confidential. Wife Shirley Begg was our guide and we spent a delightful hour learning the bronze processes and feasting our eyes on the variety of bronze works in the studio. They range from very small to probably fifteen to twenty feet. Shirley is a bronze sculptor as well and her excellent work is also on display. She was so welcoming you leave feeling you have a new friend. On historic Main Street (1st street) is a statue commonly known as The Chicken Lady She is a pioneer lady surrounded by her chickens and the eggs gathered are folded in her apron. A wonderful tribute to all farm women who contributed so much to our history of homesteading the land under primitive conditions. There are other Begg’s statues in the town and hundreds of statues across North America and five continents. Make sure to take a brochure at the studio to understand the vast collection that has come from this this modest studio in this historic town of Cochrane.

Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park protects spectacular natural landscapes and historical resources along the Bow River, between Calgary and Cochrane. To ensure Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park's sensitive and significant natural and historical features are protected, a detailed biophysical inventory and an archaeological assessment were conducted. An interim park management plan was developed to provide a framework for initial development of facilities and services in the park. Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park is a day-use only park. Camping is NOT allowed.
We had a wonderful, warm and windy walk on a busy Friday afternoon using both the paved and unpaved trails, around 11km in all. Our favourite part was across the railway down by the river. Here it was quite boggy in places with the fast-melting snow, and we had this part almost to ourselves. We had not known anything about the history, and were well informed by the panels throughout.

Big Hill Springs is located between Parkland and Foothills natural regions, just north of Cochrane, Alberta; it preserves a large spring and series of small waterfalls that flow year-round over rocky terraces covered with a lush growth of shrubs and grasses. The park is also the site of an historic fish hatchery and Alberta's first commercial creamery.
Lovely scenic spot for some easy hiking. Trails go into the forest, up a hill and wind through a valley. But get there early - parking fills up quickly in the summer months
