I am not sure why this market in Guamote is listed under Riobamba, which is about a 2 hour bus ride away. The market is on Thursday and all the indigenous people from the surrounding area come and do their weekly shopping. The large market covers many streets of the town. All the people are dressed in their traditional beautiful and colorful clothing. The market contains all the basic foods and goods necessary for the local subsistence. It does not have tourist items. We did not see any other tourists the day we visited. A great experience and highly recommended. If you are coming from Riobamba, it is a $20 taxi ride.

Our travel guide insisted that we leave our B&B in Riobamba at 5:30 AM to see this beautiful church. He was right!

A must see while in Alausi. The monument is at the top of a hill on the edge of Alausi providing a wonderful view of the town and surrounding mountains. It is pleasant to just walk around Alausi and enjoy all the parks and monuments.
