The 7 Best Classes & Workshops in Palermo Soho, Capital Federal District

September 21, 2021 Carley Gatson

The birthplace of the tango is, like the dance itself, captivating, seductive and bustling with excited energy. Atmospheric old neighborhoods are rife with romantic restaurants and thumping nightlife, and Buenos Aires' European heritage is evident in its architecture, boulevards and parks. Cafe Tortoni, the city's oldest bar, will transport you back to 1858, and the spectacular Teatro Colon impresses just as it did in 1908. Latin America's shopping capital offers the promise of premium retail therapy along its grand, wide boulevards.

La Milonguita

If you are visiting Buenos Aires and would like to feel the local tango experience, how it works, what kind of people attend it, what music tangueros dance, what dressing code they wear, then the Milonguita on Wednesday is a must. Not only is it a glamorous venue but it is also well served, with pizzas or empanadas, and wines and champagnes, and sometimes there is a visiting orchestra or professional dancers performances. If you dance tango, then it is a must! The men/women numbers is well balanced, so solo dancers will almost certainly meet partners to dance. Mind you, the dancing level is advanced... not good for beginners.

Wanderlust Spanish

An alternative experience with the same quality of learning. We know there are plenty of options in Buenos Aires to learn our language. With the traditional method of learning, students stare at a blackboard while the teacher lectures to the class. We choose another way. A way where you can feel comfortable with the basics of the language and also learn the many uses of the words

I highly recommend taking Spanish lessons with one of the lovely teachers at Wanderlust. Having spent a few months while being stuck in Buenos Aires during Covid, I have had a chance to regularly study with Camila. My Spanish has significantly improved during this time and I feel a lot more comfortable with it. The teachers are diverse, interesting, open-minded and make learning Spanish really fun. It’s also a wonderful cultural interchange. Buenos Aires is also a vibrant place to take in this unique language learning experience. A must do if learning Spanish is high on your wish list

La Viruta Tango

If like me you do the dance classes at home come here and you will feel totally at home joining in swapping partners during the easy to follow Tango lesson. Anyone who can Modern Jive/French Jive/Ceroc will be able to do this in the “rock-n-roll” bit of the evening. I danced from 7pm till 1am really great value (think it was around £10) ... I and my family didn’t want to sit and watch a tango “show” we wanted to join in and dance ourselves and this place was fantastic! PS the building is not glamorous on the outside... but who cares about that when you are inside dancing on a huge beautiful dance floor!
