North Shields is a town on the north bank of the River Tyne in North East England, eight miles (13 km) north-east of Newcastle upon Tyne. Historically part of Northumberland, its name derives from Middle English schele meaning "temporary sheds or huts used by fishermen".

Fiddler's Green is a memorial which was erected to the memory of those Fishermen who have lost their lives at sea, particularly those who have sailed beyond the piers of the River Tyne. The memorial is a metal sculpture which depicts a Fisherman sitting on a bollard reflecting in thought.
A fabulous fitting memorial to the history of the area. A must see when visiting area. Wonderful location.

A slow walk around the Marina blows all the cobwebs away. Lovely boats with a well maintained working marina with a restaurant that has everything you need.

The Old Low Light is a grade II listed building - the oldest building on the Fish Quay in North Shields. We have a heritage gallery, which tells the story of North Shields and hosts changing exhibitions. A café and shop, to relax and chill, and finally a third floor which is available for hire for parties, functions and meetings.
The cafe is great. It is spotlessly clean, orders are taken quickly and food arrives asap. Lovely toasties and paninis, absolutely the best cheese scones ever and delicious home-made cakes. Fantastic cappuccino. The service is friendly and the prices are excellent. Large cheese scone, griddle toasted with butter and large cup of cappuccino was less than £4. Two of us had lunch - toasted paninis each, packet of posh crisps each , large cappuccinos, large slice of homemade cake each and it came to £18 total. There is an exhibition floor with fascinating history of North Shields and it's fishing industry and other local industries, artists and buildings. Excellent photos, old maps and other items. Viewing platform on top floor has amazing views of the mouth of the Tyne, the Spanish Battery and the Collingwood memorial. They sell local art cards and small attractive local gifts and paintings. It is a local educational charity . Situated in a fascinating area, free parking in abundance, indoor and outdoor seating, vey accessible, lovely, knowledgeable staff. Absolutely top of my list !

We had a really pleasant couple of hours here. Nice park to stroll through, with various planted areas to look at and explore, a long history to investigate, parts of the park date back to medieval times and a pet cemetary. This is a place for all the family to enjoy. In the centre is a large pond with duck. There is a play area and BMX / skate park.

I can remember the Fish Quay as a boy when it was mostly a working fish port and not really a tourist attraction unless you liked fishing boats. The Fish Quay still is a working fish port, though on a much smaller scale than in the seventies, but the non industrial part of the Fish Quay has been totally redeveloped for tourists. Firstly Bell St, which faces on to the Fish Quay, contains several restaurants with good 'reputations and reasonable prices. Then there's the Low Lights Tavern, North Shields oldest pub, which dates back to 1760, and is very popular with real ale fans. Also of interest is the statue of a fisherman, dedicated to the thousands of fishermen who have lost their lives at sea over the centuries, dressed in a flat cap and smoking a cigarette, as fishermen traditionally did. Then there's a jetty that's popular with anglers and a small beach near the statue. I would recommend the Fish Quay to anyone who wants to see a mixture of a tourist attraction and working fishing port and in summer it has attractions such as food festivals and markets.

The Royal Quays Outlet Centre has over 50 of your favourite stores and hundreds of your favourite brands. Plus with over 740 free car parking spaces it couldn't be easier to visit!
Great couple of weekends leading up to christmas, there seems to be a new buzz around the centre, yes it has some empty units, but find me a high street that doesnt, plenty of people, plenty of stores Next, Gap, Poundland, and some fab inderpendants, it seems that efforts are being made, a great 3 weekend christmas pop-up market, new cafe and some cocktails and craft beers to keep us entertained whilst shopping. Perhaps 2021, is the year of the revival of Royal Quays, it certianly seems like something is on the horizon.
