The 7 Best Breweries in Atlanta, Georgia (GA)

January 20, 2022 Merry Kessler

Atlanta has been dubbed everything from the "capital of the new South" and "the next international city" to "the best place to do business." It's also a great place to visit. Fueled by the prosperity of local mega companies like Coca Cola and Holiday Inn, the prestige of hosting the 1996 Summer Olympic Games and the energy of young upwardly mobile types who have migrated to the city in droves - Atlanta is on fire. And this time it's a good thing. From world-class restaurants and a myriad of cultural attractions to a hip nightlife and sporting events galore, the city is cosmopolitan in every sense of the word. But Atlanta has also managed to maintain its historic character. Stop by the Atlanta History Center or visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Historical Site, a moving tribute to an American icon. Browse through the former home of famous author Margaret Mitchell or pop into the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum for details on the life and times of the former president and his family. Whether you choose modern urban endeavors or old southern pleasures, Atlanta will not disappoint.

Monday Night Garage

Exploratory barrel-aging and souring program by Monday Night Brewing. Located on the Beltline in the West End, it anchors the Lee + White development. Enjoy award-winning craft beer in a casual, dog-friendly environment.

Monday Night Brewing opened a new location, the Monday Night Garage, on the new Westside trail of the Beltline. The Beltline is gradually being developed around Atlanta and the Westside trail is one of the newer sections. There isn't much developed on the trail yet, but it sounds like there are a number of other breweries, distilleries and more that will be arriving in the near future. So MNG is the first tenant in this old industrial area. They have a wonderful and spacious taproom, complete with an indoor food truck, movies projected on the wall, event space, and outdoor seating overlooking the Beltline. If you are familiar with Monday Night beer you'll know what they are serving is quite good. This will become a destination area in the next couple years, so make sure to check it out before it becomes too crowded (as much of the Eastside Beltline establishments are becoming).

Atlanta Brewing Company

Established in 1993, Atlanta Brewing Co was Georgia’s first craft brewery. For 25 years we have been committed to brewing quality, innovative beers for the city we love.

We came here a few years ago when it was still Red Brick Brewing Company and it was a blast then, so it could have only gotten better. It's the oldest craft brewery in Georgia (since 1993) and the beers were very good. The flight was great and we took home some great beers. I hope we can return soon and check out all of the new stuff since the name change.

Monday Night Brewing

Original Monday Night Brewing taproom. Home of the Hop Hut. 20+ beers on tap, including IPAs, sours, and craft hard seltzers.

We were passing through on 75, so it was an easy stop-off for a quick late afternoon refreshment. They had plenty of space between tables outside, and a few set up in the taproom as well. Fun vibes. Lots of people were showing up as we left so I can imagine if we had come a bit later, finding a space to sit might’ve been challenging. Their double IPA is phenomenal. Bar staff seemed a little overwhelmed or underprepared, but I would imagine this new set-up probably takes some getting used to. We would definitely go back.
