Bristling with beautiful lakes, splashing rivers, rugged peaks and looming castles, Vorarlberg is tucked between Switzerland and Germany. This spirited state is dotted with Bauhaus-inspired architecture, eco-friendly dwellings and tiny towns, bristling with spires. Capital Bregenz is the main draw in this alpine locale. Cobblestone streets and a lovely lakeside setting add to its charms. Renowned for its cheese and dairies, Vorarlberg is also a popular spot for skiing and other winter sports.

After a lovely drive through the villages of Brand and Innertal and an exhilarating ride on the Lunerseebahn you arrive on the shores of the Lunersee itself. The stunning scenery can be viewed at leisure sat outside the Douglas Hutte or enjoyed whilst travelling the very popular circular route around the lake. At almost 2000 meters high a gentle stroll is what most people prefer but for those of you after a little adventure there is the Schesaplana, the highest peak in the area at 2965 meters, with the popular Totalphutte halfway up. The views are to die for, which ever route you take and you just can't get enough of the fresh mountain air. You can quite easily spend a day here just wandering about.

Formarinesee (a natural lake) and Spullersee (a man made water reservoir) are about 9km apart (both about 12km from Lech) and during the day time can only be accessed by a local bus (5€ toll per person is to be paid). We visited both places by car and in this case we had to pay 15€ toll and it was only allowed to drive after 04:30 p.m. The whole area is beautifully green, calm and full of peace. Road to the Formarinesee offers a lovely driving option and the natural lake itself is pretty beautiful with a great option to walk around it. Both Spullersee and Formarinesee are awesome with stunning beauty. The drive is quite thrilling as well: start of toll road to Spullersee and then to Formarinesee and back but drive carefully as the road is quite narrow with some blind corners. We had a close encounter at one place so do not even hesitate to warn others by pressing the horn lightly or be dead slow at blind corners.
