Farmington Canal Heritage Trail

I wish we had one of these near my home. This appears to be an old railway trail that's been paved for bike and pedestrian traffic. My wife and I were looking for a hike today but as it had rained heavily yesterday we weren't into the state park scene - too muddy and slippery for rock scrambling. So we opted for a 10k walk on this 130k trail. We picked it up near the Tuxipin park (or something like that) and walked towards town - about 5k. It ran along a river and was separated from the houses either by greenspace or fence. Quite a gem to have in your backyard

Wadsworth Falls State Park

I was looking for things to see in the area, while on a day trip and I just love waterfalls. So when I saw there was a waterfalls we just had to stop and visit before making our way home. Little did we know at the time there was a long way and a short way to the falls, Lol. So we made the big hike right after lunch and just before sunset. Needless to say we burned off a few calories by the time we reached the falls. Just as we arrived at the falls, the park rangers asked if we made the hike because the park closed at dusk in about 45 minutes. We had no idea that there was a parking lot right next to the falls. So rule of thumb make sure if you are up for the hike, bring good walking shoes, a bottle of water, a use the facilities before you start out on your journey. Or if not have your GPS bring you to the closer parking lot. Lol

Bigelow Hollow State Park

We visited Veterans' Day weekend. Very quiet. Passed 6 others along the trail. Beautiful views. Great variety on the trail. Some flat, some rock scrambles, a few streams to cross on logs or rocks. Walking sticks helped in the water crossings. Several spots to stop for lunch or breaks along the trail. We followed the Breakneak Loop trail. It was about 8 miles round trip. Clearly marked - easy to follow.
