The guest house THE ONZAINE, building in 1850, in front of Chaumont sur Loire and the International Festival of Gardens is surrounded with greenery but not far from the village and from its conveniences. In the center of the valley and of its most beautiful castles, on the way of the Loire by bicycle and on the wine trail, it arranges numerous cultural, gastronomic or wine-making attractions. Numerous activities are proposed like flight in mongolfiere, a golf course, a picnic in vineyards, sports activities for small and big either certain thematic workshops. The 5 rooms recently renovated propose different atmospheres and mix vintage and recent furnitures and decoration. Stay and bed for children under 3 years old is free
Absolutely lovely stay! Commom areas decorated with charm and character. Our room (Havana) was so spotlessly clean with great attention put to every little detail (decoration, welcoming little message, towels, toiletries, etc) We loved the hospitality of the landladies, the amazing breakfast with local organic products in the beautiful big table of the kitchen and all this in a very decent price compared to what we paid for our other accommodation in the Loire area that were not necessarily of higher quality. On the recommendation of the our hosts we also had dinner at an amazing restaurant close by. We recommend this auberge warmly! ?

Amicalement. Viviane et Alain La Mayenne.

We recently stayed two nights at this enchanting place. The host was friendly and welcoming. We stayed in the smaller of the two available options. 20-30 minutes by car away from either Blois or Amboise (and just a little bit further from Chenonceau). Parking at Les Douves was easy and within the moated grounds. Breakfast was served at our requested time on the lovely stone courtyard - basic French breakfast - breads, jams, honey, butter, OJ and coffee. The rooms were spacious, clean and absolutely gorgeous. They were filled with quirky art and sculptures nestled among beautiful old furniture and fixtures. The main bathroom (shower and tub) are up a small staircase (note for anyone who may have trouble climbing stairs). The tub was huge, perfect for soaking up all the surroundings. The windows opened up to stunning gardens - roses, lemons, sculpted trees with fantastic outdoor sculptures at every turn. And the Moat - could not get enough of the moat! I paddled around for quite a time, snapping photos, greeting the swan and ducks and just escaping into this magical place. At night, the gardens cast an entirely new spell with a star-filled sky as the backdrop. The cool night was warmed on the inside by a fire that was lit by the host for our comfort. A quick word about the town. We fell in love with this tiny village - we arrived on market day - a handful of cheese, meat, flower, vegetable and fruit stalls in the little town square - speaking a bit of French helped here - but everyone was very patient with my earnest attempts to communicate. Of course, there is a lovely old church. Shout out to the traditional dance and music group that was practicing at the community center. Again, we were welcomed in and enjoyed an hour of so of local entertainment - we thought it was a performance, but ended up being a practice. All the more enjoyable as we attempted to communicate and take it all in. The town is well positioned to take in the surrounding chateaux - don't miss Chaumont (which is 10 minutes away). None of the guidebooks particularly focus on this gem - the gardens were an absolute joy!

We arrived early and the owner pleasantly let us in to our room. We stayed two nights (for our anniversary) in the romantic room. This very spacious apartment had a nice bed, gigantic salle de bain (separate toilet) and sitting area. Free wireless (it worked in some parts of the room but not others) was provided and there was even an electronic fireplace. The owner was very pleasant. She claimed that she had little english, but I suspect that she could get by if you needed to. She gave us the local short cut to different places in the area. The breakfast was mainly carbohydrates (breads), but what made it special was the homemade jams and yogurt that she provided. Overall a true bargain at the price. Parking available on site. Wonderful location for exploring the Loire valley vineyards and chateau.
