York Visitor Centre

Reviewed By Q7840EUdanl - Bunbury, Australia

The Visitor Centre is generally our first stop when looking for additional information and directions to local attractions. With Covid restrictions, websites are not always up to date as we discovered after arriving in York on the Sunday afternoon. Somewhat frustrated, I visited the Centre on the Monday where a lovely lady, Beck, provided updated information and suggested a number of other attractions that were open to visitors in the York district. Just brilliant and ensured that our three days could be full of attractions to see and visit. Other staff equally as engaging and helpful later on. Good range of souvenirs and small gifts available. Great range of brochures. Free wifi a boon.

Toodyay Visitor Centre

Tranquility, hospitality and amazing valley views make Toodyay the ideal place to stop over, catch your breath, rest a while and establish a base from which to explore the area's wealth of attractions. Toodyay is situated inland in the picturesque Avon Valley region, only 80km North/East of Perth. Stay a while in Toodyay and soak up the country atmosphere at one of our Bed & Breakfasts, Homesteads, Retreats, Caravan Parks or Hotel accommodation. Also located within the Shire are the Avon Valley National Park and numerous reserves that become a blaze of colour with magnificent displays of wildflowers during the wildflower season (Aug-Nov). This beautiful valley with it's rich soils saw the settlement of Toodyay develop, in turn becoming an important agricultural district. The original settlement was established in the late 1830's along the Avon River which flows through Toodyay. The Avon River holds the world's longest white-water race, the "Avon Descent", each year in August.

This was a great place to kill a couple of hours in Northam...situated on the River in front of the suspension Bridge, staff are very helpful and the displays tell you of the history of Northam. There are maps and brochures of the local attractions and a Café overlooking the River. Next door is the Aboriginal & Environmental Interactive Centre, which is also worth having a look at.
