Freddie, our amazing guide, was the best part. We arrived by cruise ship, 2 hour late. He waited and reorganized our tour so we missed only one small thing I can't even remember. We saw everything else including lions and hippos after the best time with the Zulu performance. I would give him more stars if I could. At the end of the tour, his boss called to make sure we were taken care of. When I spoke to him, he pretty much said it went so well because we had Freddie. Freddie knew every nuance of our visits....how much time to allow, what to pass over more quickly, where to spend the most time. Thanks to all of you.

Don’t miss a trip to Lesotho while you are in South Africa. Stunning sceneries, beautiful encounters with the locals . Our guide from Roof of Africa. Was very knowledgeable and courteous but also the best driver I met. I highly recommend this organization to anyone who plans to visit Lesotho. They did everything possible to please and accommodate us. The guide even spotted a very traditional ceremony celebrating manhood of some villagers , without him we would have missed it. He taught us a lot on their culture and also helped us interact tactfully with the people who were not Used to seeing foreign tourists. He was also very environmental friendly . Out of the 74 countries visited to date, Lesotho remains one of my favorite ones partly due to the way I visited it .

6. Drakensberg Amphitheater Day Hike - Tugela Falls and Chain Ladders - 8 hours

Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge, Phuthaditjhaba, 9870, South Africa GoVertical Mountaineering & Trekking

Leaving the Sentinel car park, we follow the footpath past the mighty Sentinel 3165m – the highest free standing peak in the Northern Drakensberg - contouring our way to the base of the chain ladders. We use these iron ladders to gain access to the Mont-Aux-Sources Plateau. The plateau is the source of many of South Africa’s rivers including the Tugela which winds its way down to the Indian Ocean near Durban. The escarpment is about 3000m above sea level, with the steep walls, great valleys and pinnacles facing roughly east and the Lesotho Highlands filling the horizon to the west. From the edge of the Drakensberg, you will have spectacular views of the Amphitheater, the Sentinel & the Tugela falls disappearing into the vast valleys below as well as the peaks that make up this awesome world heritage site. Distance 16km Duration of Walk 8 hours. Lunch on the Amphitheater, weather permitting.

Otto from GoVertical took us to three different day hikes in the Northern Drakensberg in Kwazulu-Natal.We had a splendid time and he took good care of us - his couscous salad at the rocks under Tugela falls was the best picnic lunch we've had. We did the Chain ladder hike, the Tugela Valley hike and the Mudslide-crack hike( which was quite a fun hike we wouldn't have dared doing on our own). The hikes and scenery exceeded our expectations, and we were really satisfied to have taken a guide as everything was so easy for us.
