The Greek mythology associates the founding of the city with Orestes, son of king Agamemnon of Homer’s Iliad. The city was (re)founded in an eponymous way by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, hence the origin of its name today. Strategically located, Edirne has been in the middle of no less than 16 wars or sieges throughout its history, before it was conquered by the Ottoman Sultan Murad I in mid-thirteenth century.

I have used the services of Turista Travel previously on my trips to Turkey. This time I wished to have a personal experience in the old city. Davut assisted me to organise a full day private tour of the old city. I must say the guide was excellent and I have a great day. As always their service was friendly, efficient and reasonably priced. Thank you Turista for your excellent service.

I love a good walking tour! It's the first thing I like to do when arriving to town since it gets you oriented to the major history and then gives you ideas of stuff to see.. We packed so much into the tour. The Square, government buildings, sculpture, orthodox church and mosque - wow so cool, and lots of other little things we eyed up to go back and enjoy.. Rate this one an "A"!
