As some of the other reviews have mentioned, getting to Marcahuasi is not for the faint of heart. You take a road that’s cut into the mountainside (picture attached) that you drive too ridiculously fast up. The hike up isn’t a beginner’s hike - it’s only a mile from where you park but it has a steep incline and the altitude can hit you quickly if you’re not used to it, which I wasn’t. But I stopped and rested A LOT and managed to make it okay. I was quite short of breath and a little light headed. I started to get a headache toward the end but it went away by the time we reached Lima. I did take some Gravol that I had gotten at the pharmacy the night before, as well as some Excedrin. But it was all worth it. By the time I reached the cliffs at the top I was a little emotional. It was an unforgettable moment. I’d highly recommend the Stone Forest. Bring sunscreen, a hat, some good walking shoes, and water.
