This is a hidden gem. Lots of walking and not the easiest place to get to. Beautiful castle, wonderful lake and a scenic lake. Nice place to overnight.

Lesna Windmill

Reviewed By WayneGGarrett - Beroun, Czech Republic

Me, my wife and two kids were staying in a town near to here and the kids wanted to stop to eat here as the place looks beautiful.
The service was ok but nothing special about the food.
I ordered the steak (medium rare) but it came very near to well done.
My wife had chicken in some sauce that she said was far to salty.
My kids had some kind of breaded chicken that was very dry.
If going for the views yes but for good food then no sorry.

Nationalpark Thayatal

We crossed into the Thayatal park from the Czech Republic crossing the bridge at Hardegg. This is Austria's smallest town and was very pretty. There is a castle which is open from April. There are several walking trails in the national park following the river Dyje. There are toilets and a restaurant by the bridge in Hardegg. Definitely worth a look.

Hrad Bitov

Castle and interiers are average, just with beautiful wall paintings. In last floor is rich collection of taxidermy animals. Entrance is split to three cirles, but first is best and price is 130,-CZK. Entrance just to patio of castle is 70,-CZK and is better to buy first circle for just 50,-CZK more.

Entry is very reasonable, 7.50 euros for an adult, and well worth it. You can wander around the castle freely and you really get a feel for what it would have been like living there in it's heyday. It hasn't been "modified" like a lot of the Castles we have visited and we really appreciated this. It has a lovely aspect and is great for photos. Really glad we took the time ti visit Castle Hardegg.
