My family had no idea what to expect when we ventured to Citico WIldlife from Tellico Village outside Knoxville. My parents live there and are always on the hunt for fun activities in the summer when their grandkids come to visit. I was blown away by Cleve's whole operation - from the extremely unique and many near-extinct animals, to his knowledge, the stunning expanse of the property and the lovely snack spot at the vista up top. Cleve runs a 5-star operation here and you are blessed to have it in East Tennessee. He has invested his heart and soul into this business and I fear he may not be able to continue unless he attracts more visitors. Please don't miss this unique, one-of-a-kind experience for your family. I've been on multiple safaris in Africa, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. This is equally as impressive but from an herbivore perspective. Don't be surprised when there aren't Big 5 animals - Cleve's animals are all 'grazing' animals because this is TN, not Africa. But the unique species he has are equally as fascinating if you're an animal lover & adventure craver like I. My best wishes to Cleve and his operation. It would be an utter shame if he wasn't able to stay open. A local treasure indeed!

I have purchased numerous products from Benton's and have never been disappointed. I have even had my own hogs cured by them and they were awesome. While they may not offer that service anymore they still make a superior product. Highly recommend.

Fort Loudoun State Historic Area

Reviewed By John K

The welcome center has a wealth of information about the life and weapons of the soldiers stationed here. The books on sale recount the history of the fort and its most famous inhabitants.

Strolling through the stockade fort reminds you of the pent-up circumstance of the early settlers and soldiers. There's not much room inside, and there are no extant building outside. The quarters are all small, and would be extremely uncomfortable in inclement weather. The armory is quite interesting as it has examples of all of the munitions used in the forts' weapons.

There is a picnic area on-site, with nice river views. The fort tour is unguided, and there are no restaurants.

I really enjoyed learning about Sequoyah and how he created the written Cherokee language. I probably spent 15 minutes in the museum. I had my three small children with me which caused my visit to be expedited. I would have enjoyed more time. I think it's a great museum and worth a visit. The Fort Loudon Historic site is minutes away. It's a good combined visit.

Tellico Blockhouse State Historic Site

Reviewed By Steve W - Lilburn, GA

Tellico Blockhouse was constructed by the United States in 1794 and was occupied until 1807. It stands across the Little Tennessee river, at the confluence of Nine Mile Creek, from Fort Loudoun, a British fort which was in ruins by the time the Blockhouse was erected. It served as a peacekeeping force between the Cherokees and the settlers, as a trading post, and as a factory where Cherokees could learn mechanical arts and spinning and weaving cloth. The present site only lays out the foundations of the original fort and its components. It was a very important site in the on-going relations between the newly formed United States and the Cherokees, who signed treaties here ceding tracts of land in Tennessee and Georgia. It should be included in any visit to Fort Loudoun. It has ample interpretative signs.
