I AM VERY FORTUNATE TO have a hometown that endows beautiful scenery – beaches, forest and rivers to the local people and tourists. Sibuyan Island is one of the islands in the archipelagic land of the Philippines. The island is composed of three municipalities and Cantingas River is located in the Municipality of San Fernando, province of Romblon. It takes 10 hours to reach this river system from mainland of Luzon. It provides electricity and supply of water to the residents. Cantingas was awarded as the cleanest freshwater in the country. With a very minimal fee of Php10 (20 US cents) as entrance fee, you can enjoy the natural scenery Cantingas can offer at the foot of the majestic Mt Guiting-guiting. Local transport is available all the times, and it takes 10-minute drive from the town proper. For the safety of visitors, the river is open during day time only. There is a three-level diving boards to try and the best spots to view the mountain ranges and aerial view of the upstream of the river. Because of the coldness of the water, it serves as a cooler for drinks submerge (just a matter of few minutes) into the water. The current is manageable to cross the river to other side where you could sit down on top of the rough boulders where you could enjoy the current. Fish is clearly visible under water and sometimes it jumps over you! Amenities such as picnic tables, toilets, parking area, and shower areas are available to make everyone's enjoyable and memorable. Definitely, this is the answer to all our worries, a natural way to relax and enjoy nature at its best!
