ARCAS is a Guatemalan NGO dedicated to wildlife rescue and conservation. The Parque Hawaii is the premier sea turtle and mangrove conservation and research project in the country. There, ARCAS also has community development and environmental education projects. Sea turtle nesting season is from July to December. During these months, visitors to the Parque can take 2-3 hour tours to learn about efforts to conserve the sea turtle and other wild animals, release hatchlings on the beach, and take boat trips through the nearby mangrove wetlands. Volunteers help conduct patrols searching for sea turtles and taking research data. ARCAS's wildlife rescue center near Flores is the largest and most complete wildlife rescue center in the Americas, receiving 40+ species wild animals, the majority confiscated from wildlife traffickers operating in the Maya Biosphere Reserve. Both in Hawaii and Peten, ARCAS welcomes volunteers and ecotourists to help in its efforts to conserve Guatemalan wildlife

My family and I have visited this place a few times now and the kids love it! They release baby turtles and the kids get to get their own and see 100's of turtles fins their way to the ocean - it truly is magical! They also offer a sunrise tour that is majestic. Kinda creepy at first since it's so dark out but once the sun starts coming up and peeking through the mangroves, it is truly a sight!
