The only diamond mine in North America open to the public.
I've been to private excavated dirt mounds where people dig for quartz and the like, but this scales things up quite a bit. They till the earth to hopefully uncover a few precious stones. In fact, we found a lot of Jasper. No one had found a diamond for three days or so when we left at closing time (4 pm).
It's messy work, but some people (including the rest of my family) enjoyed it. I'd like it better if they could do away with the professionals. People who come there and even rent cages to keep their equipment in so that they can do sun-up to sundown digging and sifting. Oh, and they stake out spots at the trough telling you that "so and so" has just gone to find her daughter and is working that portion of the trough. For over half an hour, so-and-so was away "tracking down her adult daughter." That's just not right.
Worse yet, they allow SMOKING!!!!! WTF? You can't smoke within 25 feet of the open-air sifting stations but out in the fields, I watched as a man toked away and every sane person (mostly kids) around him left to get away from the choking fumes. They really, really need to correct that.
Beyond that, they do have a knowledgeable inspector to go through you haul and they do know how to milk a dollar from you (equipment rentals, high entry fee).

We stayed at a cabin on the lake, but we did not fish. There were lots of fishermen at the Swaha Marina, and they were celebrating their 40th year of meeting/fishing this lake. So that means they must catch fish. It seems to be connected to the Little Missouri River, and we were told there were no stumps in the water.

Only explored the Gift Shop. Not interested in searching for planted Arrowheads, even if some are authentic! Employees knowledgeable, I spoke mostly to young man who is a Rockhound like Me! Almost spent $30. on an authentic Arrowhead from here in Pike Co. Arkansas. Gift shop worthy of a visit!

Cool little place. The soda fountain soda was pretty good. The sandwiches were ok except they seem to run out of stuff easily. They were out of everything we wanted so I finally said "ok, what CAN we have?". Little bit too high (cost) on their canned items. We could have a cherry coke but not a vanilla one. They said "Coke" wouldn't let them have it. I thought vanilla was a common commodity....silly me. I think with a good manager this place could be much better.

Dino Dig is an indoor sand pit that kids, young and old, enjoy digging in and finding polished gemstones. It is air conditioned and heated so it is comfortable year round and weather is not a factor.
Our kids 5 & 3 lived this place! I liked it too because it was a fun activity indoors. It is a giant sand pit pre filled with a variety or colored rocks. They have digging tools and the kids (and adults) can dig as...MoreThanks for the great review!!! Hope to see you again.
We'll fish for anything that is biting but we target crappie most of the time and we've developed a system for locating and catching them year around on Lake Greeson, about 45-miles southwest of Hot Springs, Arkansas between Murfreesboro and Glenwood. Call them what you will - crappy, white perch, specks, sacalait, calico bass papermouths or whatever - we like catching them and love eating them!
