Kundasang is a town in the district of Ranau in Sabah, Malaysia that lies along the bank of Kundasang Valley. It is located about 6 kilometres away from Kinabalu National Park, 12 kilometres from Ranau town and is renowned for its vegetable market which is open seven days a week. It is the closest town to Mount Kinabalu and has a panoramic view of the Mountain. It is populated mainly by the native Dusun and a small population of Chinese people. Almost all the shops are operated by locals.

These hills are located about 5 km from Kundasang town, on the same road (Jalan Cinta Mata Mesilou) which would take one to Desa Cattle Dairy Farm and Mount Kinabalu Golf Park. The right turn to Sosodikon Hill is located barely 50m away from the left to the well known Desa Cattle Farm.
The road to the base of the hill is narrow and can be rough. One can choose to leave their car just off the main road, and leg it from there (perhaps 1.5km). The actual climb takes only 20 mins. What awaits you is the unique pyramid shaped hills to your south and the mesmerising Kinabalu to your north. On both left and right sides, you'll see the beautiful Valleys of Kundasang.
Entry of RM3 per head apply, but for a visitor like me, it is well worth it even jut for the view.
Enjoy!

The world's highest and Asia's first via ferrata located on Mt. Kinabalu on the 3rd largest island in the world, Borneo. The via ferrata at 3776m and Pendant Hut at 3,280m above the clouds within the UNESCO world heritage site of Mt Kinabalu National Park. If you are an adrenaline junkie and want a lofty adventure that have you hanging around on a wire, this is should be on your bucket list!
By far the very best way to come down from Mt Kinabulu summit. Very professional and well run operation. Very high level of safety with outstanding guides. Our group did the Lowes Peak Circuit and it was possibly even better than the summit sunrise. We had a couple who where very nervous but the high degree of professionalism shown by the guides - Hillary and Ali- soon had them relaxed and feeling safe. Should you do it? easy awnser is yes

Lovely little market. Lots of snacks and fruits to buy. Perfect spot to take pics of the mountain. Toilets are available. Great spot to stretch your legs and enjoy local products and produce.

Stalls after stalls. Selling all sorts. From vegetables to fruits to plants. Pretty dusty as it still located right by the main road. Friendly people to chat with.

Climbing to the top of Mount Kinabalu is one of my wishlist since my first sight in 2014 from the Kundasang view. My opportunity was come to hike to the peak last week.. Honestly, without prior intensive training and preparation, I was quite scared if my body cant adapt the toughness of Kinabalu. However, the climbing was quite amazing. Tired is not an excuse anymore because along the way to Laban Rata, the scenery and fresh air was quite beautiful and speechless..
Our luck might be not so good since we are not allowed to hike to the peak due to weather are so bad. Waiting until 0330 am with full of hope. However, we need to obey with the safety restriction from Kinabalu Park Rangers.
For others who are planning to hike, just prepare yourself with full of mentality strength. Keep your stamina at least to control your breath constantly. Hiking pole is additional equipment that helps a lot for your hiking journey. You can rent the pole at Kinabalu Park with only RM10. Keep updating also the temperature and weather forecast at Kinabalu Park. It might help you to be prepared for the worse temperature at the peak that might fall below 0 degree celcius.
Lastly dont forget your camera. Keep it charging for beautiful moment to be captured up there especially when you are hike with your love one.
For myself, I am looking forward to repeat this trip in able for me to reach the peak. So if your group have any empty slot to fill in, just let me know. HAHAHA
TQ.
