Located on Mobile Point, at the end of Scenic Fort Morgan Peninsula, the site has a diverse number of activities to make your vacation a memorable one. Preceded by another fort, Fort Bowyer during the War of 1812, Fort Morgan is a Third System masonry fort built between 1819 and 1833. Standing guard where the bay meets the Gulf of Mexico, the fort played a significant role in the Battle of Mobile Bay in August 1864. Used intermittently through the Spanish American War, World War I and World War II, the site showcases the evolution of seacoast fortifications and adaptations made by the U.S. Army for the defense of the country.
If you have a few extra hours to kill, go see Ft. Morgan. We happened to be staying nearby and decided to visit. We all enjoyed it including my 9 year old grandson. The tour is self-guided and sometimes it's difficult to figure out what...MoreThe tracks were to deposit a 1600 lb shell into Battery Duportail's magazine. A small narrow-gauge train was used for the process.

Rated the top public Golf Course in Alabama per Golf Digest, Kiva Dunes stretches 7,092 yards with a U.S.G.A. rating of 73.9 and a slope rating of 132. This spectacular 18-hole golf course meanders through natural sand dunes, lakes and wildlife areas. The layout was created by Jim Edgemon, the property’s developer, and longtime friend and former U.S. Open Champion Jerry Pate.
The course is worthy of the price. What a fantastic layout. How can it be golf scenic on such a flat piece of land. The greens were a bit slower than the Midwest bent greens but they appeared to pick up pace as the day...MoreThank you taking the time to review Kiva Dunes Golf Course. We hope to see you again soon!

Our family of 5 (3 teens incl) had a fabulous time with Walter during our recent vacation to Gulf Shores! Our trip was a 4 hour, off shore fishing trip from 12:30-4:30 for Snapper. Cost was $750. At first I was in a bit of sticker shock, but I am SO GLAD we went for it. The trip started out going approx. 28 miles off shore to where we began to fish. Walter's equipment seemed great- everything worked properly and the boat was very nice. Walter's helper, Ben, was great at keeping all of us stocked with new bait whenever we caught something- which was nonstop from dropping our lines. At one point, all 5 of us had huge fish on our lines and were working hard to bring them to the surface. Walter and Ben were helpful, friendly, and obviously knew what they were doing. As soon as the fish stopped biting in one place we were instructed to pull up our lines and move to another spot where we would quickly catch more again. The fishing was so much fun! After catching our limit within an hour, Walter took us on pursuit of some shark for fun (probably to fulfill our full time at sea). After the ride back to shore Walter allowed us to take some pictures, cleaned the fish, bagged them up, and shared some recipes. All in all, I think we made some great memories that day and I am really glad we did that. Plus + we had a freezer full of fillets that we were able to bring back to Texas! We had so much we had to split the fish between two coolers we filled with dry ice for the long trip ome. If you are thinking about doing something special- go for this!

Took my 2 young boys fishing. All we did was troll. I don't think Capt. Even had any other bait. I know it is called fishing not catching but when you pay this kind of money and don't even touch a fishing pole does not make for a good experience for young kids. They were so excited to go then not to even touch a pole was disappointing. Then Capt said he had used all his resources and took us in early. Still charged us full price. Boat and tackle were in great shape looked well maintained. Still better than work.
