I love this city and a visit here isn’t complete without a walk down the strand. The lights along the pathway, the waterfront, the buildings on the other side of the road - kind of take you back in time as well as keep you in the present too. The buildings and lights are very typical of Indo-French architecture. The waterfront is calming, serene. You can take a ferry ride across to the other side of the Hooghly

Just a walking distance from the Strand and the old Governor House, this is a beautiful 18th century church of the French times. It has beautiful surroundings and beautiful Glasswork inside.

This was an amazing discovery on a break exploring places near Kolkata. The temple is serene and the ambience is much like the temples in our childhood sans pestering priests and music on loudspeakers that has become common nowadays in India. The place is steeped in history and remnants can still be seen in the secret tunnel below the ceremonial bed that apparently leads to a huge underground chamber that is again connected to the river. The idol is old and very beautiful. The staff are very helpful with information and one is pretty much left to oneself while praying another thing that is sadly becoming rare in temples. Ask for chobighar while trying to locate the temple.
