This nature reserve came about due to the expansion of the Denso Marston factory onto fields beside the river Aire. The nature reserve was set up to help offset any adverse impact on the local wildlife. It runs for about 500m right beside the river on a well maintained footpath. It provides a welcome habitat for many different species of birds, insects, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. There are regular activities organised by Steve, the full time warden. There is also a friends group of volunteers who help out with looking after the reserve throughout the year. Herons, kingfishers, goosanders, little grebes, various species of bats, roe deer and even red kite are all attracted to the reserve. It is a tranquil, haven of peace, at any time of the year, just a few minutes walk from the bustle of suburban Bradford.
