The 6 Best Things to do Good for Kids in Baddeck, Cape Breton Island

November 29, 2021 Mollie Coke

Baddeck, on Cape Breton Island, is a great base for the Cabot Trail, Cape Breton Highlands National Park and Louisbourg’s fortress. Easily explored on foot, Baddeck’s sole street offers an appealing array of accommodations, restaurants and stores and lovely views of Bras d’Or Lake. Take a kayak tour on the North River, visit Kidston Lighthouse or hike the national park’s trails, cliffs and coves. Back in the town, don’t miss the museum devoted to famed inventor Alexander Graham Bell.

Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site

This museum chronicles the life and career of Alexander Graham Bell with its rich collection of artifacts and documents accumulated by Dr. Bell and his family during their time in Nova Scotia.

Had no idea the many contributions made by Alexander Bell in addition to the telephone, ie aviation, hearing impaired, boating, conservation, etc, etc. Beautiful museum displaying this man's many talents with minimal education. Highly recommend when in Baddeck NS

Uisge Ban Falls

3km return hike. Beautiful, small falls some neat views along the way. River, trees growing atop rocks, birds, etc. Would recommend hiking shoes or sneakers at the very least as the path can be muddy as well as roots protruding from the ground. The base of the falls consist of large, wet rocks.

The boardwalk was a lovely walk along the water. We stopped and sat next to the statues of Alexander Graham Bell and his wife Mabel. A great view of Kidston Island.
