Captain John – POSEIDON’S owner – knows all the coves and sites and offers you the best tour, as he has been touring around the island for the last 20 years ! He is also a great chef, as he is taking care of the menu during the tour. POSEIDON is making daily tours around the island. It departs from the port at 10:30 a.m and returns at 17:30 p.m. The boat has a capacity of 75 people

About €9 each return from Gialos - we went to Asia Marina (brilliant taverna there) - taxi went at 10am and then again 11-12. There were two return options from our beach 15.15 & 17.15 so you can't exactly hop on and off to visit other beaches. Maybe this is the case in the height of the season. Taxi boat was on time and was the main carrier by the looks of it. There was another option at Gialos port but we didn't use it.

Marathounta beach is a beautiful pebble beach in a cove near the southern part of Symi, easy to reach via water taxi. The beach is known for the goats that roam freely nearby, and who are always curious about what is in your bags! The watr is crystal clear and calm, a good beach for swimming. Bring water shoes! Chairs and umbrellas are available at the beach, and a good taverna serves fresh and delicious Greek fare for a reasonable price.

Have fun trying to imagine what it must have been like to live in Symi before the onslaught of mass tourism, when this was the main commercial thoroughfare.

Visited this as part of the day trip well worth a visit. Very humbling and really interesting part of the island history.
