I just visited Quartz Museum today after being recommended by friends. I could have spent much longer soaking up the amazing collection of ceramics made by both international and New Zealand potters from past to present day. This place is a real credit to Rick Rudd, his knowledge and dedication to create a museum to showcase such works. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would thoroughly recommend a visit!????

These kind of information offices tend to be much of a muchness, with loads of brochures and the ability book tours and the like. The defining difference between a good one and an indifferent one is the helpfulness of the staff - and we were happily impressed by the staff here. The were friendly, answered all of our questions, marked up an excellent map for us to use, and even googled a few opening hours and the like for us. Excellent.

Whanganui Regional Museum

Fab provincial museum just off the main drag in the middle of town! Modern, fresh, well lit and just the right size to whizz around on perfectly formed pathways within an hour and a half. The Lindauer painting collection is amazing as is the huge amount of moa bones. There is plenty to keep the kids interested. The taxidermy animals and the extensive 'poo' collection were a firm favorite that was talked about for the rest of the day. What really clinched the visit was the passion and service from the ladies who welcomed us. They explained the must see highlights, gave the kids a museum scavenger hunt with stamps as a prize for finishing and also advised a great lunch spot. Well done ladies, you are fab ambassadors to promote this ace museum and beautiful city.
