This historic site features a mysterious 69-foot-high Native American burial mound that was built between 250 and 150 B.C.
We came to Moundsville specifically to see ....the Mound! Exceptional FREE visitors center with many artifacts from area inhabitants dating from a thousand years ago . Stone and bone tools and decorative items provide a glimpse into a native culture and way of live largely ignored by our educational system. Fascinating.

Built in 1866 and in operation until 1995, this prison offers 90-minute guided tours of the facility from April 1, through November 30. Day tours, Paranormal events, October's haunted house, Elizabethtown Festival, are just a few of the events that take place at the facility on an annual basis.
First time ever visiting the prison & WOW! I was there for the history and the eeriness of the prison was out of this world. Our tour guide Lee was so knowledgeable, friendly and very interactive with us and all around great! Will definitely be back!!

New Vrindaban Sri Sri Radha Vrindabana Chandra Temple, is a wonderful and beautiful vacation site. This decorative display includes large wooden pillars, stained glass skylights, Their Lordships (deities), authentic Radha Krsna paintings, and other attractive features. The Palace of Gold is just up the hill and there is accommodation onsite. Restaurant onsite and open during April-December.
...I finally went inside this nice Krishna temple that's by an awesome small lake in a beautiful corner of West Virginia. It's part of a retreat center that has cabins for rent, a restaurant, the beautiful lake with some interesting Hindu and Krishna related sites around it, and this peaceful little temple. It's part of a Krishna community with the larger Prabhupada’s Palace of Gold temple at the top of the hill, which is more like a tourist attraction with an admission fee and a guide taking you around. This is like a smaller, less ornate temple where you see families and other visitors come in to meditate and do their religious practices. I believe it also serves the broader Hindu community and not just the Krishnas. I just like walking around the lake and seeing the peacocks (a couple of which are all white), statues, and peaceful people and kids just having a good time in this beautiful setting. Guess I live a little over an hour away from here and always think about coming back; I intend to visit more. I really wanted to see the inside of the temple this time and if you know me, I don't want to go inside anywhere these days. But there was very few people here today, and the place is big enough so I spent about five minutes walking around inside, of course being my usual double-masked self. It's pretty inside, and there was a man in robes playing a guitar and singing for a couple small families sitting on the floor in front of the main murti/altar. So wish I had a family to be here with and so lucky that I don't. It doesn't make a difference, I know I wouldn't be happy either way.

Take a step outside of the ordinary and visit the Palace of Gold, just twenty minutes from Highway 70 in WV. Originally designed as a home for the founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness this unique Palace stands alone as one of the top religious wonders to see in the USA. Take a guided tour and learn about the history of the community and about the love and devotion that built this majestic place. Marvel at the intricate marble work, stained glass, crystal chandeliers and of course gold! Relax by the lotus pond or take a stroll through our extensive gardens. The trip doesn't stop there, the Palace is just one part of the greater New Vrindaban community which features a vegetarian restaurant, lodging and guest cabins, gift shops, peacocks and much more. Finally take in the Radha Vrindaban Chandra Temple, a traditional Vedic temple with golden altars and a 40ft high stained glass roof. Come and spend some time with us, we are here to serve you.
