The most northerly of the Western Fjord counties, More og Romsdal is a land of rich and rugged terrain, including steep mountains, rolling valleys, many islands, some of the country’s longest waterfalls and, of course, the deep fjords that make the area so famous. Geirangerfjord, one of Norway’s most visited fjords, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home to the spectacular Brudesløret (Bride’s Veil) and De Syv Søstrene (The Seven Sisters) waterfalls. Picturesque Alesund is the county capital.

Ellingsoy Church was consecrated the 31st of August 1998, and is designed by the architect Oscar Norderval. The church is idyllically situated in Slotsvika, with a fjord view of islands and skerries. It is stretching upwards with a special roof construction, viewing God's heaven. Some may look upon the building as hands, gathering their finger tips at the top and covering the parish protectively. Other may remember the meeting tent carried by the Israelits throug the desert. The beautiful church art in Ellingsoy Church, created by the artist Hakon Gullvag, consists of a hanging cube in the middle of the church room. This is telling about the incidents of the Bible - the past. At the front is the priest and the altar, representing the present, and at the wall behind the altar is the circle with Jesus collecting souls to Heaven.

Church on rail. Welcome to the first and only train chapel in Norway - probably also the only one in the world - which has stopped by the platform of the end station of the Rauma Line andalsnes. This old and venerable railway carriage was a gift from the Norwegian State Railway, and which through a long life has served busy people on travel, will now serve as a small house of God to give people silence and peace in an otherwise noisy world. The chapel was consecrated by bishop Odd Bondevik on the 10th of June 2003 in the presence of our royal couple, king Harald and queen Sonja.
A unique experience visiting this unusual place of God. Excellent. The restored train carriage is stationary alongsode the station in Andalsnes, right next to the cruise terminal. it is well worth a visit. Thank you.
At Løsetstranda you will find burial cairns along the shore. This large prehistoric cemetery with 63 graves is one of the largest in Norway. The cairns are dated late Iron Age or early Bronze Age. There has been a belief that the hulder lived in the cairns and mounds. Please show respect for the graves of our ancestors. All medievel and prehistoric archeological sites are protected by law.
