The City of Kawartha Lakes (2016 population 75,423) is a unitary municipality in Central Ontario, Canada. It is a municipality legally structured as a single-tier city; however, Kawartha Lakes is the size of a typical Ontario county and is mostly rural. It is the second largest single-tier municipality in Ontario by land area (after Greater Sudbury).

Kawartha Settlers' Village is open to the public from May 1st until September 31st each year. KSV is a collection of over 20 historic homes and buildings from Bobcaygeon and the Kawartha Lakes area. Set on nine acres of the original Murphy farm, the Village houses the original Murphy Barn, The General Store, Fairbairn Church, one room school house, fire hall,and more. The artifact collection contains more than 1000 pieces including furniture, clothing, agricultural implements,books, tools and more. There are 44 locks, including 36 conventional locks, two sets of flight locks, hydraulic lift locks at Peterborough and Kirkfield, and a marine railway at Big Chute which transports boats between the upper and lower sections of the Severn. Lots of shady treed areas to relax and watch the boats. Public washrooms available. Public parking area. Easy walk to numerous restaurants and shops. Small sandy beach less than 2 minute walk. Great for kids and of course grownups can shop at the famous Bigleys shoe store right across the street !
