Birla Ghat

Reviewed By ishapatni - Vadodara, India

Birla Ghat is also amongst many ghats of Gangaji in Haridwar. We had a stay at an ashram just overlooking Birla Ghat. It's a Bengal based ashram with extremely beautiful Durga Maa temple. One must consider this place for accomodation. (Extra reviews!) Ya so like all other ghats, at Birla Ghat too Ganga Aarti is done every evening. It's much less crowded than the famous Har Ki Paudi. You can take part in the aarti. It's beautiful.

This place is near Mayapur. The locals call it Ballal Dhipi, associated with Ballal Sena, of the Sena dynasty, who ruled Bengal in the late 12th Century AD. The Archaeological Survey of India excavated this place in 1982 and revealed a 750 year old brick structure in an extensive yard surrounded by walls. Stucco heads, terracotta human and animal figurines, copper utensils and other objects were found at the site.
