We drove up the veterans highway to the top. Although with Covid the castle and other areas were not open we were able to park and take amazing photos. It was a great drive and the views were spectacular.

We camped nearby and went regularly to this beach. Nice swimming area, playground, and a good spot to launch kayaks. If you swim outside the swimming area, you may run into a beaver! Even a pavilion, washrooms, and a nature trail. Never busy. Set back in from the road so you'll miss it if you don't look for the sign.

The Lady at the bottom in the tollbooth told us visibility was zero at the summit and the summit is about 5 miles to travel to get to. The radar said that the afternoon would be partly sunny so we took our chances she was right the summit was completely engulfed in clouds after about 45 minutes the clouds got less and less and we got to see with no clouds if you can go on a cloudy day it’s pretty awesome to experience what it’s like to be in a cloud. The top hiking section was close to the WeatherStation due to Covid but many great views are still seen. The bathrooms are open at the top and food concession is also open at the top. Make sure you read your car manual to understand how to drive down steep hills without burning up your brakes. This place was really awesome it’s a must do if you are in the lake placid area
