Had a one-hour soak in one of the private springs (Rio) overlooking the river and Turtle Mountain. Clothing-optional in the private baths. Great water temperature, clean and a fantastic view. The lodge rooms were booked solid but next time I’ll try to stay on-site.

Hot Springs Bathhouse Historic and Commercial District

We stayed at Las Palomas, in the heart of the downtown hot springs district. The owner was very helpful during our stay and staff all very courteous and quiet. We appreciated the “whisper only” policy during our stay, which allowed us to focus on total relaxations. The hot spring pools there were indivual and different temps, which was also nice. Easy to book our slots. We had free range of the pools, since we were overnight guests, which I would highly recommend. Hope we can return some day....

NM does Veteran Parks really well. This was a great history lesson, followed by a great hike to the Rio Grande. Bring a picnic - two covered tables.

I wake up to a beautiful mountain view every morning! I just returned from the showers and there was plenty of hot water and the restrooms are very clean. I am in the Palomino campground with full hookups for only $18/night! New Mexico state parks are the best value in the country! I highly recommend this state park!

Carole Wheeler Dog Park

Well maintained off-leash dog park with separate areas for small and large dogs and an additional separate area for dogs that need less stimulation and more supervision. The park was recently opened and was named after the founder, Carole Wheeler. Grassy areas and beautiful views of Turtleback Mountain and the Rio Grande river. Proof of rabies vaccine required.

If your visiting t or c or driving to Abq or points south take the short detour through this eccentric town and let Rover roam. I love the 8’ fence that won’t let even the most athletic dog jump over it. Multiple runs. Don’t miss the funky thrift stores nearby
