Bordering the southern side of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Bryson City is a small town with big outdoor possibilities: whitewater rafting, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, tubing, zip-lining, paddleboarding, mountain biking and scenic train rides. This laid-back, non-touristy spot is a true getaway for couples, friends and families alike. Bryson City is just one hour west of Asheville, two hours from Greenville, Knoxville and Chattanooga and three hours from Atlanta and Charlotte.

Appalachian Rivers Aquarium

Located on the Tuckasegee River, the Appalachian Rivers Aquarium exhibits as many regional species of non-game and game fish as possible among its fourteen tanks, with a total exceeding 4,000 gallons of water. In addition to those tanks, there are two terrariums and a hellbender exhibit to showcase the variety of amphibians and reptiles in the Southern Appalachians, currently including frogs, turtles, and several species of salamanders.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Fish were biting really good. Fish caught averaged a 1 lbs We caught 8 total weight 11lbs Had a flock of turkeys come through while fishing. They provide gear and bait Or you can use your own as long as it has 6 lb or heavier line. I have been to many trout farms and This one here is the best one I've Been too.

Goldmine Loop Trail

pay close attention to the signs because there are several spurs off this trail. Trail gets muddy in spots so recommend a change of shoes in the car. Trail can be fairly steep on the hike back up to the parking area/tunnel.

We went on the train ride from Bryson City to Dillsboro and followed the Tuckasegee all the way. It is very pretty and while in Dillsboro we walked down to the water. It looks like it would be some pretty good rafting, have to go back and try that out.
