Hershey, Pennsylvania, the home of the Hershey Chocolate Company, bills itself as "The Sweetest Place on Earth," and it's hard to imagine another city giving it a run for its money. The city was built on chocolate, as were the great majority of its attractions. Hershey's Chocolate World takes sweet tooths on a virtual tour of the Hershey factory, and Hersheypark allows kids and adults alike to frolic through a vast land of rollercoasters, waterslides and walking, life-sized chocolate bars.

This place is very clean and comfortable, just what we needed for an overnight on a road trip. The gentleman at check-in was friendly. We checked in and out in the pouring rain and were lucky enough to get a room on the first level that allowed us to back up to the door to unload and reload the next morning. Hershey’s Chocolate World is a short drive away.

Simmons Motel and Suites built in 1957. Each property was purchased separately and modified into the motel. The motel has been owned and operated by the same family since 1957, we are a warm and friendly motel. While on your travels away from home and you do not need luxury then we are for you. When you come to Simmons it is like being home away from home.
It felt like I was camping since it was 90 degrees out and the AC wasn’t cut on in the room until we got there at 7pm. The room never cooled off. The motel also doesn’t give shampoo which I though was odd since they have a pool. They only give bars of soap so I went out and got some shampoo since we had been swimming.

The sweetest Red Roof Inn is now in Hershey, PA just minutes from Hershey Park, ZooAmerica, Hershey's Chocolate World, and the Hershey Story museum. We are just a short drive from Giant Center the area's premier entertainment venue in Hershey. Also nearby is Hershey Gardens, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Founders Hall at the Milton Hershey School, and Cullari Vineyards and Winery.
The first room they gave me smelled like smoke. I was given another room and that one was OK. No issues other than that. We were just there to sleep one night. If I had been spending more time other than just to sleep, I would’ve preferred a little nicer place. It was OK for the money spent. Beds slept comfortably.

Liked · Like that it was 2.2 miles from the main town of Hershey. What I didn't like! The Host was rude and ignorant and doesn't speak vary good English. We got to the hotel a little after 1pm in the pouring rain. We discovered the office door locked and a message on the door to call a "732" number. This area code is for Freehold, NJ, not Hershey, PA. We called the number and waited 10 minutes under the "eave" in the pouring rain. We had gotten back in the car, and about 5 minutes later (by this time another couple as arrived to check in) someone calls us back from the "732" number asking if we were still waiting. Umm..Hello? Yes, we want to check in. Finally showing to unlock the door, he ask for ID and its obvious that he doesn't know how to work a computer because he writes everything down on paper. We get a room on the 2nd floor of the building. The only handicap space is in the back of the building, there is no elevator. We rush to get our bags from the car to inside the entrance of the building before it starts to rain again and then we have to carry them up a flight of stairs. Disliked · The Host was rude and ignorant. TV was "snow" so that you couldn't see the picture. The mattress would not stay on the beds. There was dried piss stains on the toilet when you put the lid to the toilet seat down and the toilet would not stop running after the first use of it. Also, there was no cover on the sockets in the wall. The Host woke us up at 11pm to tells us that our card was declined. I don't know what kind of games he was trying to play, but I looked up my card it was perfectly fine. Now I ask, who is going to pay me for 3 1/2 of sleep I lost because this person woke me up at 11pm. I figured my time is worth about $10 an hour. He could have been considerate and slip a message under the door for me to find in the morning! In the morning when I went in to check out, I asked for a receipt. I watched him pull my receipt from the garbage can! And also the receipt where he charged a card where it had declined. I don't know whose number he tried to charge and say it was mine because as I said there was nothing wrong with my card. When I tried to tell him about the things mentioned above, he totaled ignored us, as he was too busy wanting to get back to making his breakfast!

We got the last room in town after the red roof/hotels.com booked us for a room that they were sold out of (neither admitted fault). We called and drove around and finally found the Rio. They had one room available (room 7). It is a old hotel and smelt really old. Anyone who's been in an antique store will know what I mean but the sheets looked clean so we decided to stay. By this time it was around 2am and our only other option was to sleep in the car. The t.v. Was around 13in, The bed sunk in in the middle, the air conditioner was a little loud and there was a bug on the wall. We slept with the light on in case there were any more bugs hopeful that would keep them away. We thankfully didn't see any more. The shower was clean and and worked well. Not worth the $100 we paid but our only option. It was Memorial Day weekend and all the other 100 something hotels were All booked. There was also a patch taped to the wall and a cut in the other wall. A microwave, mini fridge and desk were in the room.
