The 6 best Minshukus in Naha, Japan

May 9, 2023 Oliva Fomby

Go from the 13th century to the 21st in one day in Naha. Its ancient Ryukyu Kingdom centerpiece, Shuri Castle, has been restored and is the city's top tourist attraction. Meanwhile, on Kokusai-dori (International Boulevard), the pace never lets up as locals and tourists hop from restaurants to bars to nightclubs.

good clean place in central Naha

Reviewed By CrimsonKookaburra

Enjoyed my stay here - it's close to the main shopping street, but far enough away to be away from the noise and bustle, and a short walk away from the nearest monorail station. Had a private room that was spacious - though as is typical for these type of rooms, a tiny table. No tatami floor, but wood paneling instead. Clean sheets, towels, and one of those sticky lint remover things (but used to clean the floor) are provided (self-service) every 2 days. Only complaint is that for 5 rooms, there was only one toilet and one shower, and for some reason the bathroom sink had no hand soap (though the shower has bath gel and shampoo). Also is a small kitchenette with a small fridge, microwave, and kettle.

Decent choice if you don't want to spend to much

Reviewed By Sydensvein

We had to stay overnight in Naha because our boat to another island was cancelled due to a typhon. We found this place and showed up without reservation. We were met by a friendly elder woman that did not speak english, but with some very basic Japanese and a lot of body language, we managed to get a room. Our room was really not expensive and it was a decent sized tatami room (something between 6 and 8 mats). The room was clean, but the small shared bathroom could have been cleaner. The guest house is centrally located in Naha, very close to the market and the main shopping street (Kokusai Dori). We left early in the morning and had breakfast another place. I don't think they serve breakfast, but there is a refrigirator close to the bathroom where you can store food and there is also free tea and instant coffee. All in all, this is a decent budget choice. For one night it was fine, but I think I would have chosen to pay more and stayed another place if I was going to be in Naha for several days.

Best option if you take the ferry

Reviewed By Hottelc

First to know: this is a backpackers hostel, not a luxury lodge. We knew it before going there and, actually, it exceeded our expectations We took this hostel because we had to be at the ferry terminal at 05H30 in the morning and it is at 3 minutes walking distance from there. We were lucky because we had the whole 4th floor for us. The air conditioning is coin operated but very efficient. 100 Yen for 1H30 of air-co and you can insert up to 7 coins for the night. The rooms are Japanese traditional style and the futong were more confortable than in other pricy hotels. We had no problems with noise. A shared fridge is available. The bathrooms are really basics but soap and towels are provided. The owner is friendly and speaks good English. He gave us really useful information about the surroundings and dining options. 2 supermarkets are within 300 meters far from the hotel The hostel is around 5 minutes walking from the Asahibashi Monorail station Maybe it was luck but we had a better night there than in some "luxury hotel"

Great accommodation with parking spots!

Reviewed By Niameow

Overall, I liked B & B 4 rooms, and I would stay here again. Breakfast was very tasty, and the owner was very friendly. Rooms have an air conditioner for both cool and heat, and the location was pretty good for us (9 min walk from a monorail station, a couple of min walk from convenience stores, restaurants, bars and Aeon (major grocery/shopping mall in Japan). Had towels and a hair dryer. Free parking was great considering that most of other accommodations were either paid parking spot, first come first serve (no reservation for a parking spot), or didn't have a parking spot (direct customers to a nearest paid parking spot). One of the reasons I decided to stay here was the free parking spot. Perhaps a sign on the door about a button for the hot water in the shower might help foreign visitors (since this is a common thing in Japanese houses) as I missed the button originally. (I figured it out when hot water didn't start at all). Otherwise, very good accommodation!
